September 11, 2026 : Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has arrived in New Delhi to attend the 18th BRICS Summit, where he is expected to hold meetings with several world leaders and participate in key discussions on economic cooperation, multilateralism and global governance.
Pezeshkian arrived in the Indian capital on Friday, September 11, and was welcomed by Shantanu Thakur, India’s Minister of State for Ports, Shipping and Waterways.
Besides attending the BRICS Summit, the Iranian president is scheduled to meet the prime minister of India, the prime minister of Malaysia, the president of South Africa and other leaders and officials participating in the gathering, Mehr News Agency reported.
Speaking before leaving Tehran for New Delhi, Pezeshkian said BRICS has significant potential to counter unilateralism and expand cooperation in the economic, trade, industrial and scientific sectors.
During his visit, he will address the main meeting of BRICS leaders. He is also expected to attend a BRICS Economic Forum session and a closed-door meeting of BRICS leaders focusing on inclusive global governance and strengthening multilateralism.
Pezeshkian described his visit to India as an important opportunity to deepen cooperation among BRICS member countries. He said the summit could play a significant role in further expanding economic and other forms of cooperation among member states.
The Iranian president said BRICS currently comprises 21 members, including 11 full members, while 10 newer members are referred to as part of the “BRICS Plus” grouping.
