The flood situation in India’s northeastern state of Assam has worsened, with the death toll rising to 100, according to the latest official figures. The Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) confirmed on Sunday night that two more fatalities had been recorded.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said in a post on X that nearly 1.1 million people across 25 districts have been affected by the devastating floods. To support displaced residents, the state government has established more than 2,000 relief distribution centres and is accelerating rehabilitation efforts.
Sarma said government agencies are working in coordination to ensure the timely delivery of food, shelter, and emergency assistance to affected families. At the same time, authorities have intensified field operations to assess the full extent of the damage caused by the floods.
The Assam government has also launched a door-to-door damage assessment campaign in the flood-hit districts. The survey will document losses to homes, agricultural land, livestock, and other property to prepare a comprehensive estimate of the destruction.
The chief minister said the assessment process is expected to be completed by August 31, assuring residents that no affected family will be excluded from compensation or rehabilitation programmes.
