Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced the establishment of fast-track courts to ensure the swift prosecution of those involved in examination paper leaks, as student protests and political pressure continue to mount across the country. Pledging stringent punishment for those responsible, Modi said no one would be allowed to jeopardize the future of India’s youth.
The announcement came on Thursday (July 23) in a post on social media platform X, amid student demonstrations in New Delhi and heated protests by opposition lawmakers in Parliament.
Modi said safeguarding the future of the country’s young people remains one of the government’s foremost responsibilities. He added that relevant authorities had been instructed to take prompt and exemplary action against those involved in the paper leak scandal.
“Those who betray the aspirations of our youth will receive no sympathy,” the prime minister said. He also noted that he had earlier described the paper leak incidents as a “grave sin” during a meeting of the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA).
Following Modi’s statement, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi launched a sharp attack on the government, accusing it of weakening India’s education system and shielding those responsible for repeated examination paper leaks.
Rahul Gandhi put forward three key demands: the immediate resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, a formal apology from the government to students, and strict legal action against those accused of attacking student protesters.
He further alleged that more than 150 examination paper leak incidents had occurred over the past decade, yet none had resulted in effective accountability or justice.
Opposition parties, along with the Chhatra Yuva Sangharsh Committee (CYSC) (or the organization identified in the source report), have continued protests both on the streets and across social media, demanding the education minister’s resignation.
