Venezuela’s interim leader Delcy Rodríguez said on Monday that the country’s current course following the arrest of former President Nicolás Maduro by the United States has placed Venezuela on the “right path.”
According to AFP, Maduro was removed from power during a US operation in Caracas in January this year. Following his ouster, former Vice President Rodríguez assumed the country’s leadership.
Since taking office, Rodríguez has opened the country to private investment and activities involving foreign interests. The process is reportedly being closely monitored by US President Donald Trump.
Speaking at an event in Caracas, Rodríguez celebrated the restoration of diplomatic relations with Washington, saying relations between the two countries had entered a new phase after Maduro’s arrest.
“January 3, 2026, was a turning point in our approach to national politics and international relations,” she said.
Addressing international guests at the event, Rodríguez noted that a year earlier many people in Venezuela could not have imagined a post-Maduro era.
“Nearly six months have already passed, and I believe this was the right path,” she added.
Rodríguez also said that existing differences between Venezuela and the United States could be resolved “through diplomatic channels.”
After years of estrangement, Caracas and Washington have re-established diplomatic relations. The United States has also eased sanctions on Venezuela’s oil industry, while President Trump has reportedly expressed interest in the country’s vast natural resources.
Maduro is currently being held in New York, where he is facing drug trafficking charges.
Maduro’s son, Nicolás Maduro Guerra, was also present at Monday’s event.
