Russia is prepared to engage in possible dialogue with Europe over the Ukraine war, the Kremlin has said, indicating that President Vladimir Putin remains open to diplomatic negotiations.
Speaking to Russian media, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stated that Moscow would respond positively if European countries show interest in resuming talks. However, he claimed that it was Europe that had previously decided to suspend diplomatic contacts with Russia.
According to a report by the Financial Times, European Union leaders are considering new diplomatic initiatives regarding the Ukraine conflict, particularly as US President Donald Trump is now playing a leading role in peace discussions.
The report noted that European Council President António Costa believes discussions with Russia could be possible under the current circumstances. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is also expected to support such diplomatic efforts, according to the report.
Russia has repeatedly accused Western countries of prolonging the war by providing military and financial assistance to Ukraine. European nations, on the other hand, argue that countering Russian aggression is essential to ensuring Ukraine’s security and stability.
Relations between Russia and the Western world have remained highly strained since Moscow launched its military operation in Ukraine in February 2022.
