China Blames U.S.-Israeli Military Activities for Hormuz Tensions

China has attributed the ongoing tensions and disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz to what it described as illegal military activities carried out by the United States and Israel against Iran. It stressed that the only effective way to ensure the free flow of navigation through the vital waterway is to achieve a comprehensive and lasting ceasefire as soon as possible.

China’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Fu Cong, made these remarks on Monday during a high-level open debate on maritime security at the UN Security Council. Fu Cong noted that the Strait of Hormuz is a critical International  trade route for global commodities and energy supplies. Maintaining security, stability, and uninterrupted navigation in the region, he said, is in the shared interest of the international community. China praised the mediating roles played by Pakistan and other countries, and called on all relevant parties to resolve their differences through political and diplomatic means. He also emphasized opposition to any actions that could undermine ceasefire efforts or escalate tensions. China, he added, will continue to play a constructive role in promoting regional peace and stability. Emphasizing the broader implications, Fu stated that the stability and unimpeded flow of international waterways are closely linked to peace and stability in surrounding regions, particularly among coastal states. He stressed that only by maintaining continuous dialogue and negotiation can a conducive environment for maritime security be ensured.

The misuse of military force, he warned, cannot fundamentally resolve underlying risks; rather, it risks intensifying tensions and triggering a wider security crisis.
