The 2026 Global South Financiers Conference has commenced in Beijing, China. The conference was inaugurated on Wednesday under the theme “Illuminating the Global South.”
Speaking at the main session, Fu Hua, President of Xinhua News Agency, said the organization is working to amplify the voice and development narratives of Global South countries on the international stage.
Beijing’s Vice Mayor, Sun Xue, noted that the financial sector forms a crucial foundation of the city’s economy. He emphasized that Beijing will remain committed to its policy of openness in order to strengthen financial cooperation with countries of the Global South. He also highlighted priorities such as improving the business environment, integrating technology with finance, promoting green finance, and advancing the development of the financial sector.
Lu Lei, Deputy Governor of the People’s Bank of China, stated that financial institutions are being encouraged to invest in green and low-carbon projects in countries participating in the Belt and Road Initiative. He added that the central bank stands ready to work with all stakeholders to advance the development of green finance.
Representatives from various countries, including Nicaragua’s Minister of Development, Industry and Commerce and an executive director of the Central Bank of Azerbaijan, also addressed the conference. The two-day international forum is being organized by Xinhua News Agency.
