Dialogue the Only Path to Resolve Afghanistan-Pakistan Issues: Wang Yi

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has said that the issues between Afghanistan and Pakistan can only be resolved through dialogue and consultation.

He made the remarks during a phone conversation on Friday with Afghanistan’s Acting Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi, which took place at the latter’s request.

Wang Yi emphasized that the use of force would only further complicate the situation and intensify tensions. Such actions, he noted, would benefit neither side and would instead threaten regional peace and stability.

During the conversation, Amir Khan Muttaqi expressed appreciation for China’s active mediation efforts aimed at easing tensions between Afghanistan and Pakistan. He noted that the Afghan people, who have endured decades of war and hardship, place great importance on the opportunity for peace and development.

Muttaqi also stressed that Afghanistan does not wish to be a source of regional instability, but rather a source of peace. He reiterated that Afghan territory will not be allowed to be used for attacks against any neighboring country.

The Afghan foreign minister further stated that his country does not seek military confrontation with any other nation and is committed to maintaining mutual trust and friendly coexistence with neighboring countries.

For his part, Wang Yi said that despite the increasingly complex international environment, countries in the region should strengthen unity and cooperation. He pointed out that Afghanistan and Pakistan are inseparable neighbors whose peaceful coexistence is essential for regional stability.

He also reaffirmed that China has consistently maintained a neutral and fair position on the Afghanistan–Pakistan issue. China’s Special Envoy for Afghan Affairs is currently maintaining communication with both sides and actively working to facilitate mediation efforts.

Wang Yi expressed hope that the two parties will remain calm and exercise restraint, engage in direct dialogue as soon as possible, reach a ceasefire at an early stage, and resolve their differences through negotiations.

He added that China is ready to continue playing an active role in promoting reconciliation and easing tensions between Afghanistan and Pakistan in the future.
