China’s Policy on the Korean Peninsula Remains Consistent and Stable

China’s position and policy on the Korean Peninsula have always remained consistent and stable, a spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Monday.

Speaking at a regular press briefing in Beijing, spokesperson Guo Jiakun made the remarks while responding to a question regarding China–South Korea relations and the current situation on the Korean Peninsula.

He noted that in November last year and again in January this year, the leaders of China and South Korea exchanged visits. During those engagements, the two sides reached a series of important consensuses aimed at further strengthening bilateral relations.

Guo added that China stands ready to work closely with South Korea to implement the understandings reached by the two heads of state, expand bilateral exchanges and cooperation across various fields, and guide the China–South Korea strategic cooperative partnership along the right track.

He emphasized that China’s policy on the Korean Peninsula remains consistent and well-coordinated. Beijing will continue to play a constructive role, in its own way, in maintaining peace and stability in the region and in promoting a political solution to the issue.
