Iran Situation Now the Most Pressing International Issue: Wang Yi

The situation in Iran has become the most pressing and concerning international issue at present, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said, calling for an immediate ceasefire and urging all parties to refrain from actions that could further escalate tensions.

Wang Yi made the remarks on Saturday, March 7, during a press briefing on foreign affairs held on the sidelines of the fourth session of the 14th National People’s Congress in Beijing.

He emphasized that China has consistently maintained an objective and impartial stance, repeatedly clarifying its principled position, which can be summarized in one phrase: a ceasefire and an end to the war. According to Wang, the conflict was unnecessary and will benefit no party. The history of the Middle East, he noted, repeatedly reminds the world that the use of force does not solve problems, while armed conflict only fuels new hatred and creates further crises.

Wang Yi further outlined five fundamental principles for addressing issues related to Iran and the broader Middle East:
First, respect for the national sovereignty of all countries;
Second, an immediate halt to the use of force;
Third, an end to interference in the internal affairs of other nations;
Fourth, efforts to ensure political solutions to complex disputes;
Fifth, a constructive role by major global powers in maintaining regional stability.
