A special exhibition showcasing the art of Chinese calligraphy was held at the University of Dhaka, aiming to bring Chinese culture and heritage closer to the people of Bangladesh.
Titled “Lanting Chinese Calligraphy Culture Salon 2026,” the event took place on Thursday afternoon at the university’s Mall Chattar, offering visitors a unique opportunity to experience one of China’s most celebrated traditional art forms.
The event was organized by the Chinese Embassy in Dhaka, with co-organizers including the Confucius Institute at the University of Dhaka and the Institute of Modern Languages (IML).
The primary objective of the cultural salon was to highlight the unique artistic tradition of Chinese calligraphy, which is widely recognized as an important element of China’s intangible cultural heritage.
Among those present at the event were Li Shaofeng, Cultural Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy in Dhaka, the Chinese and Bangladeshi directors of the Confucius Institute at the University of Dhaka, along with teachers, students, and guests from diverse professional backgrounds.
Participants were given the opportunity to wear Hanfu, the traditional attire of ancient China, adding a vibrant cultural dimension to the event. Visitors also enjoyed exploring the aesthetic beauty of Chinese calligraphy and took part in creating a long collaborative calligraphy scroll, offering them a hands-on cultural experience.
According to the organizers, the event allowed participants to immerse themselves in the charm of this intangible cultural heritage and experience what they described as “My Chinese Style.”
Visitors expressed the view that such cultural exchange programs play an important role in strengthening cultural connections and mutual understanding between the people of China and Bangladesh.
