North South University (NSU) campus transformed into a festive hub on Monday, 2 March, as it hosted the grand celebration of “2026 Chinese Culture Night.” The event showcased the richness of Chinese culture under the theme “Blessed Horses Welcome Spring”, along with a culinary exchange titled “Mutual Understanding Through the Flavors of Ramadan.” Through interactive activities and a joint iftar-dinner, participants deepened people-to-people understanding and strengthened the cultural ties between China and Bangladesh.
The program was jointly organized by the Chinese Embassy in Dhaka and North South University, with support from the NSU Confucius Institute and the Bangladesh-China Alumni Association.
Among the distinguished guests were Bangladesh’s Minister of State for Education Dr. Babu Hajjaj, Minister Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy Dr. Liu Yuyin, NSU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Atiqul Hannan Chowdhury, along with diplomats, academics, and representatives from various institutions. With the participation of over a hundred guests, the evening was lively and celebratory.
Chinese Director of NSU Confucius Institute, Ma Xiaoyuan, noted that the convergence of the Chinese New Year, Lantern Festival, and Ramadan brought special significance to the cultural showcase.
NSU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Atiqul Hannan Chowdhury emphasized that celebrating the Chinese New Year on campus provides students and faculty with a vibrant opportunity to experience Chinese culture firsthand. Such engagements further deepen educational and cultural cooperation between Bangladesh and China.
Minister Counsellor Dr. Liu Yuyin highlighted the 2026 Chinese Culture Night as a meaningful platform for cultural exchange. He underscored shared values centered on family, hope, and faith, and reaffirmed China’s commitment to strengthening bilateral ties and nurturing lasting friendship with Bangladesh.
State Minister for Education Dr. Babu Hajjaj praised China’s achievements in education—particularly in science, technology, engineering, mathematics (STEM), and technical and vocational training. He noted that such advancements play a crucial role in preparing Bangladeshi youth for global opportunities. He expressed optimism that cultural and academic exchanges, such as the Chinese New Year celebrations, will continue to enhance the relationship between the two nations.
A key attraction of the event was the five cultural zones, including a lantern riddle and quiz corner, Spring Couplet calligraphy zone, clay horse art workshop, Hanfu family photo booth, and traditional well-wishing games. For the Ramadan iftar, Chinese dishes such as hotpot, dumplings, and tangyuan were served alongside traditional Bangladeshi cuisine.
Organizers stated that this unique celebration further strengthened cultural exchange, youth engagement, and mutual friendship between China and Bangladesh.
