On September 25, 2024, the Embassy of China in Bangladesh hosted a reception celebrating the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China. H.E. Mr. Yao Wen, Ambassador of China to Bangladesh, delivered keynote speech. H.E. Mr. Salehuddin Ahmed, Hon’ble Adviser, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Commerce, Ministry of Science and Technology, graced the function as the chief guest. Mr. Md. Jashim Uddin, Foreign Secretary, Lieutenant General SM Kamrul Hassan, Principal Staff Officer of Armed Forces Division, Lieutenant General Mizanur Rahman Shameem, Chief of the General Staff of the Bangladeshi Army, Md. Mainul Islam, Inspector General of Police, Mr. G M Quader, President of Bangladesh Jatiya Party, Mr. Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Secretary General of Bangladesh Nationalist Party, Dr Shafiqur Rahman, Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, the Chinese National Emergency Medical Team, together with over 1,200 guests comprised of heads of government agencies, representatives of the military and political parties, heads of diplomatic missions and representatives of international organizations in Bangladesh, representatives of Chinese companies, Confucius Institutes and the Chinese communities in Bangladesh, and members of prominent media houses and think tanks attended the event.
Ambassador Yao said in his speech that over the past 75 years, Chinese people has created miracles of achievement. Under the strong leadership of the Communist Party of China (CPC), the Chinese nation has achieved the historic leap from standing up, being prosperous to being strong.The Chinese people has successfully blazed a path of socialism with Chinese characteristics. China has realized the first centenary goal of building a moderately prosperous society in all respects, and now is marching in confident strides towards the second centenary goal of building China into a great modern socialist country in all respects.
In July this year, the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) successfully concluded its third plenary session, whichadopted the Resolution of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China on Further Deepening Reform Comprehensively to Advance Chinese Modernization with more than 300 implementationmeasures, sending a strong message of CPC’s steadfast commitment to reform and opening up.
China and Bangladesh are traditionally friendly neighbors and comprehensive strategic cooperative partners. Our bilateral relations are based on the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence, with full respect to the independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity of Bangladesh. We believe no one but the Bangladeshi people have the rights to choose their path of development. No matter what changes have taken place inside Bangladesh, China’s commitment to develop our bilateral relations remains unchanged. China sincerely hopes that under the leadership of the interim government, Bangladesh will carry out state reform, maintain political stability, advance economic development and improve people’s livelihood.
To support the development of Bangladesh, China will unilaterally open its market and decides to grant zero-tariff treatment on 100% of taxable items to Bangladesh, which means China will substantially increase import of cereals, sugar, edible oil, rubber and rubber products, wood products, jute and jute products, paper and paper products,wool and cotton from Bangladesh from 1 December, 2024. China will also import Bangladeshi fresh Mangos. To combat the flood, China is about to provide rescue facilities and equipments to Bangladesh. During the last one and half months since the establishment of the interim government, the Chinese enterprises has invested more than 85 millions US dollars, demonstrating the confidence China holds for the future development of Bangladesh and our relations.At the request of the Interim Government, China has sent the National Emergency Medical Team to provide assistance in treatment of those injured in the recent uprising.
Next year marks the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties between China and Bangladesh. China is looking forward to working closely with Bangladesh to cement our traditional friendship, deepen friendly exchanges and mutually-beneficial cooperation in various areas especially in youth-exchanges, promote high-quality Belt and Road cooperation, further advance the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership to a new height.
On behalf of the Bangladeshi government and people, H.E. Mr. Salehuddin Ahmed, Hon’ble Adviser, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Commerce, Ministry of Science and Technology, extended the best wishes to the Chinese government and people on the occasion of the 75th founding anniversary of the People’s Republic of China, praised the great development achievements achieved by China, and thanked China for its long-term help and support to Bangladesh. He reviewed the development of Bangladesh-China relations in the last 49 years, pointing out that the state visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping to Bangladesh in 2016 opened a new chapter in the development of our bilateral relations.
He stressed that China is the largest economic and trade cooperation partner and the most trustworthy friend of Bangladesh. Under the “Belt and Road” initiative, the development of infrastructure construction, information and communication, and science and technology sectors of Bangladesh has made great progress. In the current situation, Bangladesh needs China’s help more than ever. Next year marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. Bangladesh is willing to continuously work with China and uplift the Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership to a higher level.
The reception was held in a warm, festive and friendly atmosphere. The Chinese National Emergency Medical Team was on site and acknowledged the crowd. There were various attractive programs and different exhibitions on the theme of Enterprise Showcase, National Defense Technology, and Essence of Chinese Artistry on the sideline. Actors of China’s Yunnan Overseas Culture and Education Centre and the “Colorful Yunnan Gathering in Bangladesh” Art Troupe performed folk songs and dances, acrobatics, and Sichuan opera.
