221 journalists killed in Israeli attacks in Gaza

At least 221 journalists have been killed in Israeli attacks in the Gaza Strip, Palestine, since October 7, 2023, as of the time of writing.

The Gaza Journalists Syndicate said that another journalist, Moataz Raja, has lost his life. He was killed by Israeli forces while covering the news in the besieged strip.

In a statement, it was said that Israeli forces launched an airstrike targeting the civilian vehicle he was in on Al-Nafaq Street in Gaza City. He was killed on the spot.

According to the Gaza Journalists Syndicate, at least 221 journalists have been killed in Gaza since October 7, 2023, as of the time of writing.

Earlier, Israeli forces opened fire on Palestinians who had come to receive aid at a controversial new distribution center near the Gaza city of Rafah. The UN said at least 47 people were injured.

The UN’s human rights chief for Palestine, Ajit Sanghe, told reporters in Geneva that initial evidence points to Israeli military fire.

Humanitarian organizations, including the UN, have strongly criticized the distribution system. They say it violates international humanitarian law and raises the risk of forcible displacement of Palestinians. The organizations have warned that forcing hungry people to seek shelter in order to receive aid would violate international humanitarian law.

Israel claims that this alternative system will reduce the risk of aid reaching Hamas, although it has not yet presented evidence of large-scale aid abuse. The UN, on the other hand, says its own monitoring system is sufficient to prevent aid abuse.
