With the cooperation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Bangladesh Embassy in Tripoli and the International Organization for Migration, a total of 167 irregular Bangladeshi citizens, including 16 people wishing to return home from Benghazi and surrounding areas in Libya and 151 from the Ganafuda Detention Center, were sent back to Bangladesh by air flight at 5 pm on Thursday.
Officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment and the International Organization for Migration welcomed them at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.
Most of the repatriates on this flight entered Libya with the instigation and cooperation of human traffickers with the intention of illegally going to Europe by sea. Most of them have been abducted and tortured in Libya at different times.
Officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs have requested everyone to be aware so that no one can illegally go to Libya by adopting dangerous routes. The International Organization for Migration has provided six thousand taka, food, medical care and temporary accommodation to each repatriated person if necessary.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment, the Bangladesh Embassy in Tripoli and the International Organization for Migration are working tirelessly to bring back Bangladeshis detained in various detention centers in Libya safely.
