Over 300 guests, including heads of media groups and international organizations from 40 countries and regions, as well as representatives from Chinese embassies abroad, attended the forum and witnessed several successful media collaborations.
In his opening remarks, Shen Haixiong, Vice Minister of the CPC Central Committee’s Publicity Department and Director-General of CMG, highlighted the challenges of a rapidly changing and unstable global environment. He emphasized President Xi Jinping’s Global Governance Initiative, noting that it directly addresses the most urgent practical needs of Global South countries.
Shen stated that CMG has launched the Global South Media Partnership Mechanism to explore the role of media in global governance alongside international media partners. The initiative aims to uphold journalistic professionalism, embrace technological innovation, build bridges for dialogue, and focus on development cooperation.
He also highlighted the outcomes of the 4th Plenary Session of the 20th Central Committee of the CPC, where President Xi laid out China’s development roadmap for the next five years. According to Shen, modernization in the Chinese style presents a key opportunity for global development. CMG seeks to leverage this platform to contribute media expertise and capabilities toward a more just, inclusive, and prosperous global order in collaboration with Global South media partners.
