Women can play a powerful role in building a climate resilient society

Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Saber Hossain Chowdhury said that women can play a strong role in building a resilient society by dealing with climate change. He said this is why collaborative efforts and collective action can play an important role in building a more resilient and sustainable world. The potential of women as key stakeholders must be harnessed to address climate issues.

The Environment Minister said this while addressing a seminar titled ‘Climate Change and Environmental Degradation – Impact on Women and Way Forward’ organized by CIRC Business Council of Women’s Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry at Parliament Club Auditorium in the capital.

The Environment Minister said that foreigners are now interested in learning strategies to deal with climate change from Bangladesh. However, the steps taken to combat climate change are not enough. He said, proper research is needed for this. Above all, it is necessary to deal with climate change with everyone including the private sector, he said.

Dr. Secretary of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change was present in the event. Farhina Ahmed; Dr. Mantasha Ahmed, President, SAARC Business Council of WICCI; Dilruba Haider, Program Specialist, DRR and Climate Change, UN Women; Runa Khan, Founder and Executive Director of Friendship; Dr. Samia A Salim, Director, Center for Sustainable Development; Daniel Novak, First Secretary of the Embassy of Sweden and Aziza Aziz Khan, Director of the Summit Group and others.

The seminar served as a platform for fruitful discussions attended by policy makers, environmental experts, women leaders and representatives of civil society organizations.
