On Tuesday, a special event titled “Spring Festival Gala Overture: A Global Celebration of the Spring Festival Gala” was held at Lincoln High School in Tacoma, Washington, United States. The event was jointly organized by China Media Group (CMG) and the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, with support from the U.S.–China Youth and Student Exchange Association.
Video messages were delivered by Shen Haixiong, Deputy Minister of the CPC Central Committee’s Publicity Department and Director of CMG; Xie Feng, Chinese Ambassador to the United States; and Yang Wanming, President of the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries. Approximately 500 guests attended, including the Mayor of Tacoma, a Washington State Senator, and representatives of teachers and students from Lincoln High School.
In his video address, Shen Haixiong highlighted that in recent years, CMG’s promotional videos for the Spring Festival Gala and Lantern Festival Gala, as well as the “Cloud Brocade Book” exhibitions, have been showcased on the screens of Times Square in New York, connecting people around the world with the celebration of the Spring Festival. The Spring Festival Gala Overture has been held for three consecutive years, providing more Americans the opportunity to experience the Chinese New Year and the Gala, gaining a deeper understanding of Chinese culture. He called for working together to build a bright future for China–U.S. relations and to promote a community of shared future for humanity.
Ambassador Xie Feng stated that the development of China–U.S. relations currently faces new opportunities and numerous challenges. To navigate this path correctly, the diplomatic guidance of the heads of state should be followed. It is essential to strengthen friendly exchanges among the peoples of both countries. Recently, many Americans have been sharing their moments of “Chinese experience” on social media. Everyone is invited to join in experiencing the Spring Festival Gala and enjoy the festive spirit of the Chinese New Year alongside the Chinese people.
Yang Wanming remarked that President Xi Jinping has emphasized that the hope of China–U.S. relations lies with the peoples. With the traditional Chinese New Year approaching in just two weeks, they eagerly look forward to celebrating the Gala with American friends. This celebration shares the cultural values of family reunion, bidding farewell to the old year, and welcoming the new, while further strengthening friendship and mutual learning between the peoples of China and the United States.
