On the occasion of Chinese New Year, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres called for renewed unity, cooperation, and strong resolve across the globe. In a world facing rising conflicts, inequality, and an unstable climate, he urged the international community to stand together.
In a special message marking the upcoming Year of the Horse according to the traditional Chinese calendar, Guterres expressed his deep appreciation to the people of China and commended China’s role in upholding multilateralism and global solidarity.
Guterres emphasized that in today’s environment—where international organizations face multiple pressures—enhanced cooperation between countries is more critical than ever.
Highlighting the significance of the horse in Chinese culture, he noted that it symbolizes strength, success, and the courage to move forward—qualities essential for overcoming international tensions and obstacles to multilateral solutions.
Describing Chinese New Year as a festival of renewal and fresh beginnings, the Secretary-General called upon the international community to recommit to common goals. He stressed that collective action is the only path toward a safe, inclusive, and sustainable future.
