Huma Khan, Head of the UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) in Bangladesh, paid a farewell visit to Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus on Monday at the State Guest House Jamuna.
According to the Chief Adviser’s Press Wing, the two discussed recent developments following the July 2024 uprising, including issues related to justice, accountability, and healing for victims. They also exchanged views on the upcoming general election and the country’s ongoing democratic transition.
The Chief Adviser praised Khan for her service during Bangladesh’s critical period. He commended the role of the UN Human Rights Office, particularly its independent investigation into the atrocities committed during July and August last year.
The discussions also covered efforts to strengthen the National Human Rights Institution and the work of the Disappearance Commission, which is investigating cases of enforced disappearances and secret detention facilities in the country. SDG Coordinator and Senior Secretary to the Government Lamia Morshed was also present at the meeting.
