Ukraine launched at least 34 drone strikes against Moscow on Sunday. It was Ukraine’s biggest drone attack on the Russian capital since the ongoing war began in 2022. The attack forced authorities to divert flights from the city’s three main airports and injured at least one person.
Russian air defense systems destroyed 36 drones in three hours in other western provinces of the country on Sunday, the Defense Ministry said.
Russia’s Central Transport Agency says at least 36 flights from Domodedov, Sheremetyevo and Zhukovsky airports have been diverted. After that, the operations at the airports were normal again. One person was reported injured in Moscow.
On the other hand, Russia also used 145 drones in overnight attacks, Ukraine said. Kiev says its air defense system destroyed 62 drones. Ukraine also said it attacked an arsenal in Russia’s Bryansk province. Russia said 14 drones were shot down in that province.
A video posted on the Russian Telegram channel showed swarms of drones flying across the sky. However, the authenticity of these videos has not been verified.
Some officials say the final phase of Ukraine’s two-and-a-half-year war may have arrived, as Moscow’s forces are advancing at a much faster pace than at the start of the war and, at the same time, Donald Trump has been elected as the 47th president of the United States.
Trump will officially take office in January. He said during his campaign (if in power) he would bring peace to Ukraine within 24 hours. However, he did not say anything about how to fulfill this goal.
