Following a potential peace agreement with Russia, a proposal has emerged to establish a “Reassurance Force” to ensure security and stability in Ukraine. On Thursday, Turkey announced its readiness to participate in this force.
According to French media AFP from Ankara, Turkey’s Ministry of Defense stated that the country’s armed forces are prepared to contribute to any initiative aimed at maintaining security and stability in the region. The ministry added that the first step is to establish a ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine. Following this, a mission framework must be defined, with clear objectives and designated roles for each participating country.
French President Emmanuel Macron announced the creation of a new joint task force last Tuesday, intended to outline a multinational “Reassurance Force.” This initiative is proposed as a “second phase of defense” after a ceasefire.
Macron noted that, with Turkey’s close involvement, the mission would be led by France and the United Kingdom, and, for the first time, the United States would also participate.
Turkey, which has NATO’s second-largest military, has previously indicated that it is prepared to deploy troops as part of a peacekeeping mission in Ukraine if necessary.
