Nepal Army Chief Appeals: Protesters Urged to Join Dialogue

Nepal, a South Asian nation, is facing one of the most severe political crises in its history. Army Chief General Ashok Raj Sigdel has called on protesters to exercise restraint and engage in dialogue.

According to the BBC, in a video message shared on social media, he emphasized that the army is committed to safeguarding national unity and territorial integrity. He added that the widespread loss of life and property during the protests is a responsibility that must be addressed by all.

Describing the current situation as “abnormal,” the army chief stressed the need for collective efforts to reduce tensions. He also expressed deep condolences to the families of the deceased.

Amid two consecutive days of unrest, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli resigned on Tuesday. After the government imposed restrictions on social media platforms, young people took to the streets in protest. Parliament, the President’s office, and other government buildings were vandalized and set on fire. Clashes have left 19 people dead and more than a hundred injured.
