India, China Pledge Cooperation for Peace and Development

Tianjin, Aug 31-Chinese President Xi Jinping and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi met on Sunday on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit, reaffirming their commitment to cooperation and stability.

Marking the 75th anniversary of diplomatic ties, Xi said China and India—two major civilizations and leading economies of the Global South—should strengthen trust, expand cooperation, respect mutual concerns, and enhance coordination on global issues. He stressed that the two countries are “partners, not rivals,” and called for safeguarding peace along the border without letting disputes define relations.

Prime Minister Modi said India-China ties have returned to a positive track, with border stability maintained and direct flights set to resume soon. He emphasized that cooperation between the two nations is vital amid global economic uncertainty and could help make the 21st century a true “Asian century.”
