Hong Kong Fire Tragedy: Xi Jinping Orders Immediate Relief Operations

A devastating fire broke out on November 26 in several residential buildings in Tai Po, located in Hong Kong’s New Territories, causing significant loss of life and property. Immediately after the incident, Xi Jinping—General Secretary of the Communist Party of China, President of the country, and Chairman of the Central Military Commission—was briefed on the situation and instructed authorities to carry out urgent relief measures.

Xi directed the responsible official of the Central Government’s Liaison Office in Hong Kong and the Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), John Lee, to convey condolences to the victims and their families.

In his directives, Xi further emphasized that the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council, along with the Central Government’s Liaison Office in Hong Kong, must assist the local authorities in extinguishing the fire, rescuing those trapped, ensuring medical treatment for the injured, and supporting the affected families. He also called for all-out efforts to minimize further casualties and losses.

Meanwhile, the HKSAR Government has already launched emergency rescue operations. The Central Government’s Liaison Office has formed a special emergency taskforce and is maintaining close coordination with Hong Kong authorities to fully support ongoing rescue and relief efforts.
