Think Tank Cooperation Forum 2025 began on Friday, November 21, in Nanjing, the capital of China’s Jiangsu Province. This year’s theme—“Jointly Building the Belt and Road, Advancing an Open Global Economy”—focuses on strengthening cooperation and shared development. More than 300 diplomats, experts, and journalists from over 30 countries participated in the discussions.
In his address, Fu Hua, President of Xinhua News Agency and Chairman of the Belt and Road International Think Tank Cooperation Committee, said that Chinese President Xi Jinping, with a strong global vision and sense of responsibility, has consistently championed high-standard opening-up. This, he noted, provides both strategic guidance and practical direction for advancing the high-quality development of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and fostering an open global economy.
Fu emphasized that, as the founding institution of the Belt and Road International Think Tank Cooperation Committee, Xinhua News Agency will continue working with media outlets and think tanks around the world to deliver high-quality reporting and research, while jointly building a robust platform for multilateral exchanges.
Former UNESCO Director-General and Senior Advisor to the Board of the EU–Asia Centre, Irina Bokova, said the Belt and Road Initiative aligns closely with the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. She noted that both frameworks reflect shared global aspirations and are committed to deepening connectivity among countries, regions, and peoples. According to her, jointly advancing the BRI not only carries forward the historical legacy of the Silk Road but also creates new opportunities for shared prosperity and development.
