The European Parliament has approved nearly $107 billion in financial support for Ukraine, aimed at sustaining public services and strengthening the country’s defense capabilities amid the ongoing conflict.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen welcomed the decision, stating, “Ukraine’s courage remains unwavering, and Europe will always stand by its side. A strong Ukraine ensures a safer Europe for all.”
The proposed aid package will be distributed through two main channels. The first is macroeconomic assistance, which will provide $35.8 billion via macro-financial aid and the Ukraine Facility. The second channel allocates $71.5 billion for the defense sector, including procurement and distribution of military equipment and technology from Ukraine and EU defense industries.
European Parliament President Roberta Metsola described the vote as “a critical lifeline for Ukraine,” ensuring continuity of essential public services while enhancing national defense capacity.
The initial tranche of the fund is scheduled for disbursement in the second quarter of 2026, pending formal approval by the EU Council. The financing plan for 2026 and 2027 had been secured through bond issuance in December 2025, ensuring the availability of funds for Ukraine in the coming years.
