Dhaka has not received India’s response on Sheikh Hasina’s extradition: Foreign Adviser

Foreign Adviser Touhid Hossain said that India’s official response to the repatriation of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has not yet been received.

He said this in response to questions from journalists after an annual general meeting organized by Belab Thana Samiti in Purbachal of the capital on Saturday afternoon.

Meanwhile, on Friday, India’s foreign ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said in the weekly briefing that a week ago, I informed about receiving Bangladesh’s message about Sheikh Hasina’s extradition. There is not much to say beyond that acknowledgment.

Sheikh Hasina was ousted on August 5 in the face of a mass coup. He fled to India that day. He has been there ever since.

In the International Criminal Tribunal, the murders against Sheikh Hasina during the mass uprising, the disappearances and crossfires in the past 16 years, the Pilkhana murders and the murders at the Hefazet Islam rally at Shapla Chattar in Motijheel – these many crimes against humanity have been accused. Cases against Sheikh Hasina, her cabinet, various army chiefs are ongoing.

Dhaka sent a diplomatic note to Delhi on December 23 seeking the return of Sheikh Hasina for the sake of the trial process.
