Deadly Train-Bus Collision in Mexico Splits Double-Decker Bus in Two

At least 10 people have died and 41 others injured in a devastating train-bus collision in Atlacomulco, Mexico. The accident occurred just before 7 a.m. local time in an industrial area about 130 kilometers northwest of Mexico City. Among the deceased are seven women and three men, according to the Attorney General’s office.

Eyewitnesses and published videos show that the double-decker bus was stuck at a railway crossing when a high-speed freight train struck it in the middle, splitting the vehicle in two. One portion of the bus was dragged a considerable distance along the tracks by the train, while the other fell to the side.

Local resident Miguel Sanchez said, “At first, the loud noise made it seem like a car crash. Later we realized it was a bus carrying many passengers.”

Several of the injured are in serious condition. Civil protection teams and emergency responders are conducting rescue operations at the scene. The state prosecutor’s office has launched an investigation into the cause of the accident. The bus belonged to the transportation company Heradura de Plata, and its upper deck was completely destroyed. No immediate comment has been issued by the company.

Meanwhile, Canadian Pacific Kansas City, the operator of the train, confirmed the accident and expressed condolences to the families of the victims. The company stated that its staff are cooperating with authorities at the scene and urged the public to exercise caution at railway crossings.
