China Upholds International Law in Island Protection

Huangyan Island is Chinese territory, and China will not accept the Philippines’ so-called “protests,” said Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Qian at a regular press briefing in Beijing on Thursday, September 11.

He stated that Huangyan Island is an integral part of China’s territory. Establishing a national nature reserve on the island is a matter of China’s sovereignty, aimed at protecting its environment and maintaining the diversity, stability, and sustainability of its natural ecosystem. This initiative is fully consistent with both Chinese domestic and international law, demonstrating China’s commitment as a responsible major country to environmental protection and sustainable development.

Lin Qian also noted that the Philippines’ regional boundaries have long been defined by multiple international agreements, none of which include Huangyan Island. China rejects the Philippines’ unfounded claims and so-called “protests” and urged the Philippines to stop provocative actions and unreasonable campaigns to avoid complicating the maritime situation.
