Canberra, 30 May 2024:Australia’s Assistant Minister for Trade, Senator Tim Ayers, is expressing interest in working with Bangladesh to increase bilateral trade and investment between Bangladesh and Australia. He expressed this interest during a meeting with M Allama Siddiqui, High Commissioner of Bangladesh posted in Australia. Assistant Minister Tim Ayers appreciated the various steps and efforts taken by the Bangladesh High Commission to promote trade and investment. He also emphasized on high-level trade delegation visits as part of the future action plan.
FBCCI Vice President Dr. Yashoda Jiban Debnath was present. Currently a delegation of 50 members of FBCCI is visiting Australia.
On July 29, FBCCI in collaboration with Bangladesh High Commission and Bangladesh Consulate General in Sydney organized a seminar on strengthening bilateral trade and investment between Bangladesh and Australia. High Commissioner Allama Siddiqui delivered the welcome speech at the seminar. He highlighted the friendly relations between Australia and Bangladesh and mentioned the recent visit of Australian Foreign Minister to Bangladesh as another milestone in the development of relations between the two countries. He said, highlighted Bangladesh as a country of immense potential.
In this seminar, some potential exportable sectors of Bangladesh like: Jute and Jute Products, Leather, Garments and Textile and Plastic Industry were highlighted by FBCCI in order to attract the Australian market. Meanwhile, FBCCI Vice President Dr. Yashoda Jiban Debnath and Secretary General Dr. Alamgir emphasized on joint ventures and partnership between the two countries in strengthening the commercial relations between the two countries.
The seminar was attended by Stephen Camper MP, Minister of Small Industries and Multicultural Affairs of NSW, Minister of Industry Sophie Cutsis MP, Assistant Secretary for South and Central Asia of the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Bruce Sattar, Chief Executive of the Australian Fashion Council, various chambersA total of 120 people including representatives of Australian trade organizations and business organizations were presentThe FBCCI delegation met with Austrade CEO, Canberra Business Chambers, Australian Foreign Affairs and Trade Deputy Secretary George Mina in Canberra on May 28. They also held a meeting with Business New South Wales in Sydney.
