A peace agreement has been signed between Armenia and Azerbaijan. The agreement was signed at the White House, ending decades of conflict between the two countries. US President Donald Trump was present at the time.
After the agreement was signed, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan shook hands. The US president described the moment as “historic”.
“It has been a long time coming”, Trump said of the agreement.
The agreement will open up some important transport routes between the two countries and increase American influence in the region.
After the agreement was signed, Donald Trump said, Armenia and Azerbaijan have promised to stop all wars forever, as well as to establish travel, trade and diplomatic relations. We are establishing peace in the Caucasus. We have stopped many years of war, occupation and bloodshed.
Donald Trump also said, “They have been fighting for 35 years, now they are friends and they will be friends for a long time.”
