Ambassador of Libya to Bangladesh, paid a courtesy call on the Foreign Secretary

H.E. Mr. Abdulmutalib S. M. Suliman, Ambassador of Libya to Bangladesh, paid a courtesy call on the Foreign Secretary, Ambassador Md. Jashim Uddin, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs today, 22 December 2024.

During the meeting, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening the longstanding cooperation between Bangladesh and Libya, with a focus on deepening economic ties as the two nations prepare to celebrate 50 years of bilateral relations next year.

Ambassador Suliman expressed Libya’s interest in recruiting more Bangladeshi professionals and skilled workers to support its development. He also conveyed Libya’s intention to increase imports of Ready-Made Garments and jute products from Bangladesh.

The Foreign Secretary emphasized fostering collaboration in the agricultural sector and enhancing people-to-people connections. He stressed the need to establish stronger ties between the Chambers of Commerce of both countries to boost business interactions. Additionally, he urged the Libyan side to finalize an agreement on visa waivers for diplomatic and official passport holders to facilitate enhanced government-level engagement.

Acknowledging the challenges of irregular migration, Ambassador Suliman shared Libya’s efforts to implement an electronic registration system to address the issue. The Foreign Secretary commended the significant contributions of Bangladeshi professionals and workers to Libya’s economy and reiterated Bangladesh’s commitment to promoting regular migration by sending more skilled workers and professionals.

Both sides agreed to facilitate high-level visits and expedite the signing of an MoU to hold bilateral consultations, covering a wide range of issues to further advance bilateral cooperation.
