Regional Director for Asia Pacific of IFRC, Mr. Alexander Matheou, called on the Foreign Secretary Ambassador Md. Jashim Uddin today at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Foreign Secretary appreciated IFRC’s long-standing cooperation with Bangladesh. He also thanked IFRC and BDRCS for their timely response during the recent floods in Bangladesh, and underscored the importance of sustained support for the community to recover their losses.
Discussions were held, among other things, about engaging the younger generation and tapping their creativity, innovation, and voluntary support for humanitarian response during crisis; non-traditional and innovative fundraising mechanism; and institutional strengthening of BDRCS.
While appreciating IFRC’s humanitarian support to the Rohingya Camps of Cox’s Bazar, and expressing concern for the dwindling humanitarian support for the Forcibly Displaced Rohingyas in Bangladesh, Foreign Secretary underscored the need for their early repatriation.
Director General (UN), Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Head of Delegation of IFRC in Bangladesh, representative of BDRCS, and other concerned officials were present during the call.
