Ensuring Safe Water Becomes Core Focus of China’s New Policy

China has issued a new regulation on water supply management, which will come into effect on June 1 this year. The State Council decree was signed by Chinese Premier Li Qiang.

The new regulation comprises eight chapters and 50 articles. Its primary objective is to improve the water supply sector, ensure safe and reliable access to water, and better serve daily public needs as well as the country’s economic and social development.

The regulation emphasizes strengthening water source development, promoting water conservation, and ensuring equal access to water for all. It also calls for enhanced safety measures for water supply projects and infrastructure, improved operational standards, and robust mechanisms for emergency response.

Legal responsibilities are clearly defined, outlining what types of violations will be punishable and specifying the severity of penalties.
