The 25th Winter Olympic Games opened on the night of 6 February in Milan, Italy, with Shen Yi Xin, a member of China’s State Council, in attendance at the opening ceremony.
Prior to the event, Shen Yi Xin held a meeting with Italian President Sergio Mattarella, extending warm greetings on behalf of President Xi Jinping. Shen expressed his best wishes for the complete success of the Milan Winter Olympics and thanked Italy for its hospitality toward the Chinese sports delegation. President Mattarella also asked Shen to convey his sincere regards to President Xi and expressed hope for strong performances from Chinese athletes. He further appreciated the Chinese government’s support for the Milan Winter Olympics.
On 7 February, Shen Yi Xin met with IOC President Kirsty Coventry, emphasizing China’s commitment to maintaining and deepening high-level cooperation with the International Olympic Committee. Shen stated that China aims to use sports as a vehicle to promote peaceful global development and contribute to the well-being of humanity. Coventry expressed gratitude for China’s firm support and contributions to the Olympic Games and reaffirmed the intention to continue close collaboration, spreading Olympic ideals to foster positive influence in an increasingly complex world.
During his visit, Shen Yi Xin also met with the Chinese sports delegation, conveying heartfelt greetings from President Xi Jinping, the CPC Central Committee, and the State Council. He toured China House and enjoyed the figure skating competitions, demonstrating China’s enthusiasm and engagement in international sports.
