Japan Interfering in Routine Military Drills, Says China

Japan is exaggerating the so-called “radar illumination” issue for hidden political purposes, a spokesperson for China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said at a recent press briefing.

Earlier, Japan’s Defense Minister Shinjiro Koizumi claimed in an emergency briefing that a J-15 fighter jet from the Chinese aircraft carrier Liaoning had twice “illuminated” a Japan Self-Defense Forces F-15 fighter over the sea southeast of Okinawa. He described the act as “dangerous behavior beyond what is acceptable for the safe conduct of flights,” prompting a strong protest from Tokyo.

Responding to the allegations, the Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson said China has already made its position clear. Frequent close-range surveillance and interference by Japanese fighter jets during China’s routine military activities pose serious maritime and air security risks. Japan’s accusations are unacceptable, the spokesperson added.

He further stated that Japan is attempting to mislead the international community, and China firmly opposes such actions. The dangerous disruptions by Japanese aircraft during China’s routine drills amount to an irresponsible political maneuver. Japan should refrain from such activities.
