On the morning of 4 December, Feng Li Yuan, wife of Chinese President Xi Jinping, and Brigitte Macron, wife of French President Emmanuel Macron, visited the Beijing People’s Art Theater. Brigitte Macron is accompanying President Macron on his official visit to China.
During the visit, the two first ladies toured the theater’s museum and learned about the development of the Beijing People’s Art Theater and its cultural exchanges with the French theater community. They watched a staged performance of the classic play Tea House with keen interest. At the theater center, Feng Li Yuan invited Brigitte Macron to view portions of the performance and engaged in friendly discussions with the actors.
Feng Li Yuan noted that Chinese playwrights have long preserved and promoted traditional Chinese culture through their artistic creations, while also actively incorporating lessons from foreign plays to encourage innovative development. She emphasized that both China and France are major cultural powers and expressed hope that artists from both countries would strengthen exchanges and mutual learning to create even more remarkable works of art.
Brigitte Macron thanked Feng Li Yuan for her warm hospitality, praised Chinese theater, and expressed her interest in actively promoting cultural exchanges between China and France to foster mutual understanding and friendship between the peoples of both nations.
