French President Emmanuel Macron is set to begin his fourth visit to China during his current term, at a time when the international landscape remains complex and challenging. Analysts say the visit offers China and France an opportunity to demonstrate that cooperation between major powers is not a zero-sum game, but a path toward win–win outcomes through constructive dialogue.
A survey conducted by CGTN shows that 75 percent of respondents support strengthening China–France economic cooperation to jointly address external risks and challenges. Another 77.8 percent believe that expanding cooperation based on mutual respect, equality and mutual benefit will not only advance bilateral ties but also have a significant impact on global developments.
The survey further reveals that 86.5 percent of respondents expect China’s high-quality development and high-level opening-up to create new opportunities for China–EU cooperation. Meanwhile, 80.2 percent say the more intense and complicated the global situation becomes, the more essential China–EU cooperation will be.
This year marks the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and the European Union. Observers note that decades of engagement have shown dialogue, cooperation and genuine multilateralism to be the most effective means for addressing global challenges.
In the survey, 92 percent of respondents said European countries should build an accurate understanding of China and take a rational approach to differences in China–EU relations. Another 76.1 percent believe China and the EU share no fundamental conflicts of interest or geopolitical confrontation, and that areas of cooperation outweigh competition, just as consensus outweighs differences.
