Serbian PM Matsut Pledges to Deepen China-Serbia Relations

Serbia’s Prime Minister Djuro Matsut gave an exclusive interview to China Media Group (CMG) during his first official visit to China.

In the interview, he said Serbia is an old friend of the China International Import Expo (CIIE), taking part for eight consecutive years. He expressed his delight at joining this global exchange platform, noting that Serbia and China share a long-standing and unbreakable “ironclad friendship.” He said this deep bond was made possible by the strong relationship built between President Xi Jinping and Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić. Their friendship has already expanded into economic cooperation and many other areas.

He added that Serbia and China enjoy deep emotional ties and a long-term friendly partnership. This year marks the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries. Over time, this friendship has developed into economic, trade, and social cooperation in many aspects of daily life. “We truly feel that China always stands firmly by our side and supports justice. We remember this deeply and are sincerely grateful. We fully understand the One-China principle, and Serbia has always supported China’s position,” he said.

Prime Minister Matsut also delivered a lecture at Shanghai Jiao Tong University. He emphasized that the bond between the two nations has grown stronger with time and that future cooperation will deepen across more fields. “This is the power of education,” he said. “We can learn a great deal from the Chinese people, China’s worldview, and its achievements in social sciences and other research areas.”

He noted that bilateral relations have made major progress in recent years, and he looks forward to strengthening cooperation to promote shared development and prosperity. He added that Serbia has been inspired by China’s development achievements and is working to accelerate its own progress, especially in infrastructure. “For decades, we have watched China’s success. Its achievements inspire everyone,” he said. Serbia and China, he noted, can further expand cooperation in trade, industrial development, education, healthcare, and artificial intelligence.
