U.S. President Donald Trump has called for urgent and decisive measures to bring an end to the ongoing conflict in Gaza. He issued the appeal on social media on Monday, just ahead of indirect peace talks between Israel and Hamas in Egypt.
The discussions were made possible after Hamas agreed to some terms of the U.S.-proposed 20-point peace plan. The proposal includes critical measures such as the release of hostages and transferring administrative control of Gaza to Palestinian technocrats. However, Hamas intends to continue negotiations over their demilitarization and relinquishing any future role in Gaza’s administration.
In his post, Trump described the progress of the talks as promising and said he had been informed that the first phase of discussions could conclude within the week. He urged all parties to take swift action to accelerate the ceasefire process.
Earlier, Trump had warned Hamas that any delays could end all opportunities, and he emphasized that he would not accept any agreement in which Gaza once again posed a security threat.
