The Israeli government has instructed its military to scale down offensive operations in Gaza to a minimum and take only defensive measures, according to reports from the state-funded Israel Army Radio.
Military correspondent Doron Kadosh reported that this directive effectively suspends the ongoing offensive in Gaza City. The move is part of preparations to implement the first phase of U.S. President Donald Trump’s peace plan.
In a statement, the Israeli military said that Chief of Staff General Eyal Zamir held a special review meeting with senior military leadership on Friday night. The statement added that, following political directives, the Chief of Staff has been instructed to strengthen preparations for the implementation of the first phase of Trump’s plan, which focuses on the release of hostages.
Military sources indicated that this step is aimed at stabilizing the current situation in Gaza and supporting the international peace process.
