China’s 14th Five-Year Plan Marks Milestones in Science and Technology

The period of the 14th Five-Year Plan has become a landmark phase in China’s advancement of science and technology. Scientific and industrial innovation are merging at a rapid pace, strengthening the momentum of new productive forces while major breakthroughs in science and technology continue to emerge across the country.

One flagship project under the plan is the Offshore Wind Power Research and Testing Base in Fuzhou’s Fuqing, Fujian Province. It is China’s first national-level offshore wind power testing facility. Once completed, it will be capable of testing the world’s largest wind turbines and longest turbine blades, while also conducting cutting-edge research across multiple technological fields.

The base has already entered the equipment testing stage and is expected to become fully operational within this year.

With China’s offshore wind energy industry rapidly expanding, offshore turbines are moving into a new era of high-capacity performance. The completion of the testing base will allow offshore equipment to be tested onshore, significantly improving both efficiency and scale of testing.
