China-U.S. Ties Among the World’s Most Important Bilateral Relations: Chinese Premier

New York, Sept. 26 -Chinese Premier Li Qiang on Thursday met with representatives of several U.S. friendship groups during his visit to New York, emphasizing that relations between China and the United States remain the most important bilateral relationship in the world.

Representatives from the U.S.-China Business Council, the National Committee on U.S.-China Relations, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the Council on Foreign Relations, along with academics and business leaders, attended the meeting.

After listening attentively to the remarks of his American counterparts, Li stressed that China and the United States should not only be partners but also friends. As two major global powers, he said, both nations should respect each other, coexist peacefully, cooperate for mutual benefit, and pursue shared prosperity through common success.

Highlighting the importance of economic and trade ties, Li noted that while the two countries have distinct market structures, their industrial frameworks complement each other significantly. Both nations also hold pivotal positions in global supply chains, making enhanced economic and trade cooperation mutually advantageous and beneficial to the wider world.

Li further underscored China’s determination and capacity to sustain stable and healthy economic growth while creating more opportunities for companies worldwide, including U.S. firms. He outlined three commitments:

1. China will continue to adopt a constructive and responsible approach, working on the basis of equality, respect, and mutual benefit to stabilize and advance bilateral economic and trade relations.

2. China will remain focused on development and steady economic growth, supported by a unique and resilient operating system, vast market potential, and continuous innovation driving economic vitality.

3. China will honor its promises and unswervingly expand its opening-up to the world.

American participants praised China’s remarkable achievements in recent years in economic growth, scientific and technological innovation, and social development. Acknowledging the global significance of U.S.-China relations, they expressed hope that both sides would maintain high-level exchanges, expand dialogue across sectors, deepen mutually beneficial cooperation, and strengthen people-to-people ties — all with the goal of building a long-term, stable relationship.
