The Suki Kinari Hydropower Station, built with Chinese investment and construction, has made a significant contribution to Pakistan’s clean energy development and stands as a milestone in China-Pakistan energy cooperation. Pakistan’s Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives, Ahsan Iqbal, made the remarks on September 15 in Islamabad during a ceremony marking the first anniversary of the plant’s commercial operation.
Iqbal praised the project’s operational achievements over the past year, noting that as a key project under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), the Suki Kinari plant has been delivering uninterrupted clean energy, helping to address Pakistan’s long-standing power shortages. He added that the project has played an important role in upgrading the country’s energy mix, reducing dependence on fossil fuels, and strengthening national energy security. The Pakistani government, he stressed, will continue to fully support the project, enhance security measures, and promote deeper, high-level practical cooperation with China.
Chargé d’Affaires of the Chinese Embassy in Pakistan, Xi Yuanqiang, highlighted in his speech that the Suki Kinari Hydropower Station provides significant benefits as a renewable energy source. He noted that the Chinese company has actively fulfilled its social responsibilities and achieved notable success in community development. He further emphasized China’s commitment to advancing comprehensive cooperation with Pakistan and jointly upgrading the CPEC to “Version 2.0.”
