Climate Change Havoc Worldwide: Floods and Landslides in Asia

Climate change has become a pressing global concern, and Asia is witnessing its devastating consequences. Melting glaciers in the Himalayas, sudden shifts in weather patterns, heavy storms, and cloudbursts are wreaking havoc. This year, severe flooding and landslides caused by torrential rains in India and Pakistan have left behind widespread destruction.

Shanghai, China, has also recorded unprecedented heat waves. According to Anadolu Agency on August 30, the city endured 25 consecutive days with temperatures above 35°C, breaking the 1926 record of 24 days. Data from the municipal meteorological bureau shows that in 1926, from July 22 to August 14, Shanghai experienced temperatures exceeding 35°C.

Situated along China’s central coast, Shanghai is the country’s largest city and financial hub. In July, many regions reported temperatures soaring above 40°C, prompting Beijing to issue high-temperature alerts for 754 provinces, cities, and counties. Meanwhile, densely populated areas in eastern China have also been scorched by prolonged heat exceeding 35°C.

China has further suffered a series of natural disasters this year, including floods and typhoons, which have claimed dozens of lives.
