Four Individuals Awarded the ‘Dwijen Sharma Environment Award 2024’

Syeda Rizwana Hasan, Advisor to the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change and the Ministry of Water Resources, has said that the struggle for environmental protection is not confined to policies or programs—it is a responsibility to future generations. She emphasized that only through collective efforts can a green and sustainable Bangladesh be achieved. For this, citizens, government, and the private sector must work together.

She made these remarks today evening while addressing as Chief Guest at the “Dwijen Sharma Environment Award 2024” ceremony organized by BRAC Bank and Torupallab this evening at the Abdul Karim Sahitya Bisharad Auditorium of Bangla Academy.

The Advisor noted that people’s continued contributions have always played a vital role in protecting Bangladesh’s nature and environment and will continue to do so. Citing examples of government initiatives such as sal forest restoration, protection of elephant corridors, and the “Zero Soil” campaign, she added, “Dhaka today is greener than before. Rooftop gardens are now visible in almost every house. People love greenery—this emotional bond with nature will never be broken.”

Special guests at the event included Nurun Nahar, Deputy Governor of Bangladesh Bank; Faruq Moinuddin Ahmed, Vice Chairman of BRAC Bank; Tareq Refat Ullah Khan, Managing Director and CEO (Current Charge) of BRAC Bank; and Shahjahan Mridha Benu, Vice President of Torupallab. The event was presided over by Mokarram Hossain, General Secretary of Torupallab.

This year, four individuals were honored with the “Dwijen Sharma Environment Award 2024” for their remarkable contributions to environmental conservation. The “Tree Friends” honors were awarded to Md. Aminul Islam of Jhenaidah, the Sonapahar Project of Mirsarai, and Sabuj Chakma of Rangamati. In addition, the “Biodiversity Award” was conferred upon Mizanur Rahman Bhuiyan, a life member of Bangla Academy.
