Dr. Fakhrul Islam Babu has been named the YMCA of Hong Kong’s NCS (Non-Chinese Speaking) Parent Ambassador for the 2024/25 school year, the organization announced today. In this role, Dr. Babu will lead outreach to NCS families, connect parents with education resources, and support Chinese language learning as a pathway to future success. The YMCA highlighted his profile, noting a distinguished record in public service, intercultural understanding, and social upliftment, along with recognition as a multifaceted leader, entrepreneur, activist, policymaker, and cultural ambassador. He has also received several honors and honorary doctorates for contributions to human rights, culture, and community development.
“I am honored to serve as an NCS Parent Ambassador and look forward to strengthening partnerships within the YMCA and the broader community to support every child’s growth,” Dr. Babu said. The initiative underscores the YMCA’s commitment to creating an inclusive, supportive environment where families can access essential educational and social services and feel confident navigating the education system.
As part of the role, Dr. Babu will spearhead outreach activities, including coordinating NCS Parents’ Day events, workshops, and information-sharing sessions designed to facilitate better communication between schools, the YMCA, and NCS families. He will also oversee community engagement efforts such as visits to libraries and other local facilities to connect families with available neighborhood resources.
The YMCA emphasized that the NCS Parent Ambassador program aims to empower parents with knowledge, foster open communication, and promote a welcoming atmosphere for all children to thrive.
