Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin said that the national elections will be held in the first half of February. The Election Commission is working with that goal in mind.
The CEC said these things at a briefing to journalists after a meeting with the administration at the Rangpur divisional headquarters on Saturday afternoon.
He said that meetings are being held with the divisional administration and election officials to take the election work forward. If there is any disturbance at any center during the voting, the election for that constituency will be stopped. No kind of chaos will be tolerated. Those officials against whom there are allegations of irregularities, corruption and bribery will not be allowed to perform their duties in the election. The Election Commission will take action against all the presiding officers who created problems in the last election.
He said that people’s trust in the election system has been lost, bringing people to the centers is a big challenge.
AMM Nasir Uddin said that the election schedule should not be announced now. The election date will be announced two months before the schedule is announced. However, the commission is preparing to hold the election in a short time.
Earlier in the morning, the Chief Election Commissioner held a meeting with the Election Officer of Rangpur region and all regional election officers and district and upazila election officers regarding the 13th National Parliament election at the conference room of the Regional Election Office.
