The interim government is actively working to ensure that Bangladeshi citizens living abroad can exercise their right to vote in the upcoming national election, said Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus.
In a televised address to the nation on the first anniversary of the 2024 mass uprising, Dr. Yunus emphasized the critical role of expatriate Bangladeshis in the country’s economic recovery.
“At a time when our economy was on the verge of collapse, it was the relentless contribution of our remittance fighters that helped us regain stability. They are not only economic heroes but also an integral part of our democratic process. The Election Commission is making necessary preparations to guarantee their participation in the upcoming polls,” he stated.
Dr. Yunus also underscored the importance of women’s participation in the election. “We want every woman across the country to cast her vote freely, confidently, and with enthusiasm. We are committed to creating an environment that will encourage a strong turnout of female voters at polling centers,” he added.
The address also covered a summary of the interim government’s accomplishments over the past year, progress in the trial of the July massacre, ongoing political reforms, and preparations for the national election.
The speech was broadcast simultaneously on Bangladesh Television (BTV), BTV News, and Bangladesh Betar (radio).
